At Ya Tchegbo, we believe independence also comes from access to meaningful work, skills, and lasting income.
For several years now, the association has been supporting women survivors of gender-based violence and their children in Benin: emergency shelter, psychosocial, medical, and legal support, and vocational training.
Our agroecological farm is a central lever for strengthening the independence of both the association and the women we support..
Three Goals
1. Feed the Centers
Vegetable production free of pesticides and chemical fertilizers helps feed the women and children we shelter, with the goal of food self-sufficiency and reduced supply costs.
2. Generate Income for the Association
Part of the production is sold locally. Developing livestock, fish farming, and food processing will help diversify this income.
3. Train the Women We Support
As a working training farm, it teaches sustainable farming techniques: soil preparation and sowing, maintenance and irrigation, harvesting, processing, and sales. These skills then help women find or create employment once they leave the association.
Potential Held Back by a Lack of Equipment
Irrigation is currently the main constraint on production. We want to strengthen our pumping system, install more efficient irrigation, acquire suitable farm equipment, and gradually develop livestock and fish farming.
Why We Need You
Every improvement means producing more, training more women, and strengthening the association's financial independence.
It means feeding women and children, generating income for an association fighting violence against women, and passing on skills so they can build their own future.
What Will Your Donations Be Used For?
Funds raised will help gradually strengthen the agroecological farm — increasing production, developing new activities, and reinforcing its role as a working training farm.
1. Strengthen Vegetable Growing and Irrigation
Irrigation is currently one of the main obstacles to the farm's growth: the current system requires about 3.5 hours of watering per day. Donations will help fund:
2. Acquire Farm Equipment
To improve working conditions and boost productivity, the farm needs equipment suited to agroecological practices.
3. Develop Livestock and Fish Farming
Two new stages in the farm's growth, which will diversify food production and income sources. Funds will contribute to:
4. Make the Farm a True Training Tool
Beyond infrastructure and equipment, the farm is a learning space for the women we support: vegetable growing, irrigation, livestock, fish farming, processing, and sales.
Every contribution directly supports the growth of a farm that feeds, trains, and helps build women's independence.
The primary beneficiaries are women survivors of gender-based violence and their children, sheltered and supported by Ya Tchegbo in Benin. The farm's growth also benefits the association itself, through income generated from selling its produce.
This project is led by the Ya Tchegbo association, active in Benin since 2016. The farm is developed with support from the association's teams and a professional production manager. The women in our care are themselves involved in the farm's activities as part of their reintegration journey.
